FOUNDING

Where Stone Remembers

For over six centuries, Lagedi has stood as a witness to Estonia's story — through conquest, reform, independence and renewal. Today, its walls hold both the weight of the past and the warmth of every gathering within.

1397 · Late 14th Century

First Documented Mention

Lagedi first appears in written records — emerging among Estonia's medieval manorial estates as a centre of regional power and territorial authority in Harju County.

XIV–XVI · Medieval Era

The Manor Takes Shape

The estate grows into an established local centre near early Tallinn, structuring rural life and commerce across early modern Estonia within the wider Baltic manorial system.

XVI–XVII · Aristocratic Ownership

Wachtmeister & Von Tiesenhausen

Lagedi passes through distinguished Baltic noble families — first Hans Wachtmeister, then the Von Tiesenhausens — each leaving their mark on the estate's architecture and enduring character.

1727 · Imperial Russia

State Property

In the wake of the Great Northern War and an early association with Alexander Menshikov, the estate becomes state property — part of the sweeping administrative changes reshaping the Baltic provinces.

1758 · 18th Century

Return to Private Hands

The estate is returned to private ownership, resuming its role as a centre of local life through the final decades of imperial governance across Estonia.

1919 · Independent Estonia

Land Reform

Estonia's landmark land reform dismantles the centuries-old manorial system. Noble estates across the country are redistributed — Lagedi's aristocratic chapter closes, and a new one quietly begins.
